Basic Betting Guide For Beginners

Trifecta

What is a trifecta? Trifecta betting is a type of bet that requires you to predict the race’s outcome in order or pick the winning first three places. If your picks all come in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd then you win. Trifectas have variations, including boxed, standout bets, and Flexi bets, among others.

A boxed trifecta has a higher chance of winning when you have more selections. Simply predict the horses 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in any order. Wait for the outcome, if it’s as you predicted you win. Flexi bet lets you pick horses in order. You get a payout as the percentage of winning dividends depending on the odds of each horse.

Quinella

What is a Quinella? This type of bet needs you to pick runners that finish in 1st and 2nd place in any order you chose. If both of the horses come in first or second as you predicted, then you win.

With this type of bet, all dividends are calculated at the end of the race. The total amount plus dividends are all declared when the race ends and your payout will depend on the odds of the horses you chose.

A box quinella lets you choose multiple horses. However, your selections must come first or second for you to win. This bet costs more but is easier to win.

First Four bet

You select four horses that finish in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th combined and you win big! This bet has four variations: Straight, Box, Standout, and Multiple. The first one needs you to place the 4 first horses in order. Box first 4 means your selections can finish in any order. You get 24 combinations, increasing your chances of picking the correct winners.

With Standout First 4, a runner is picked to finish first, and the other horses can finish in any order.

Lastly, the multiple of four allows you to select two or more runners to finish first. Other runners may come 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for you to win the bet.

Exacta

What is exacta? This bet lets you pick the first and second finishers in that order. If you pick numbers 2 and 7 to win, the outcome must be in that particular order for you to win.

An Exacta bet is hard to predict. Typically a punter will choose the two favorites. If you are more daring and select horses with longer odds your winnings can be huge.

Each Way Bet

These are two bets, namely: a place bet and a win bet. E.g a bet of $4 on Each Way Bet is a win bet of $4 and a place bet of $4. It translates to a double bet with a bet of $4 costing you $8. Each Way bets are considered a safer bet.

Quadrella

What is a quadrella? This is popularly known as a “quaddie,” where you pick four winners from a total of four races. Quadrellas are fun for sports as you can pick multiple teams to win your bet that are not playing against each other.
